Ingredients
- 4 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or any vinegar except balsamic)
- 1 large garlic clove (minced)
- 2 skinless salmon fillets (6 oz (170-200g) each)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- salt (to taste)
- black pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
- 1 tbsp chopped scallions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Remove the salmon from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before cooking to come to room temperature. Pat dry with paper towels and season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and minced garlic until well combined.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the salmon fillets in the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side until golden and seared. Flip and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes on the other side.
- Pour the maple-garlic sauce over the salmon in the pan. Let it simmer for 1 to 2 minutes, spooning the sauce over the fillets as it thickens slightly. If the sauce thickens too quickly before the salmon is cooked through, add a splash of water to loosen it.
- Once the salmon is cooked to your preferred doneness (medium rare is recommended), transfer the fillets to serving plates.
- Drizzle the salmon with the remaining sauce from the pan and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions if desired.
Pro tip: For even cooking, let the salmon rest outside the fridge before pan-frying and avoid overcrowding the pan.
