Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp Oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine (or Mirin, dry sherry, sake, or rice wine)
- 2.5 tbsp Dark soy sauce
- 2 tsp White sugar
- 0.5 tsp Sesame oil
- 0.25 tsp White or black pepper
- 1 tbsp Neutral cooking oil
- 2 Garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 Small onion (finely chopped)
- 500 g Lean ground beef
- 0.5 cup Shallots or scallions (sliced, plus extra for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, Chinese cooking wine, dark soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and pepper. Stir until well blended and set aside.
- Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing for about 1 minute until the onion begins to brown and soften.
- Add the lean ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef and stir well to coat. Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is fully coated.
- Remove from heat and mix in the sliced shallots or scallions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option. Garnish with additional scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Pro tip: For extra moisture and flavor, briefly cover the skillet after adding the sauce and let it simmer for a minute before serving.
