  1. In a small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, Chinese cooking wine, dark soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and pepper. Stir until well blended and set aside.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing for about 1 minute until the onion begins to brown and soften.
  3. Add the lean ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef and stir well to coat. Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is fully coated.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in the sliced shallots or scallions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option. Garnish with additional scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
